Universal RP Rules

Though the Rules and Regulations Topic explains most of the rules, they are meant for the site in general, not for the actual RP itself. The Rules for RP are different and must be explained so the RP can be fair to everyone. Most of these rules are universal in RP and a lot of people already know them, so this is for those who want to refresh their memories on what they are or for those who want to know just what the universal rules are.

The Universal Rules are as follows:


1. RP and RL

RP is RP, and should not be mixed in with RL. So if a comment is made in RP that offends you, don't take it personal. Its not what the member is actually saying to you, just what the character is saying. And if someone's character hits on your girlfriend's character, don't get pissed and yell at the member. That is just the character speaking to another character, not the member actually trying to pick your girlfriend up. Keep RP and RL separate!


2. God Moding

God Moding is where your character takes blow after blow in battle and does not die or take massive injury. This is highly frowned upon in RP ANYWHERE!! Here at CoD, we don't allow god moding and that is why they are included in the Site Rules. Anyone caught god moding will be issued a warning!! No exceptions!

Example: As Richard attacked John with his mighty blade, swinging at his chest, John stood firmly upon the ground as if a thread of string was hitting him. The massive blade had no effect, nor did it shed a drop of blood from John's chest. John simply laughed in Richard's face as he continued his futile attempts to injure his opponent.

See how unfair that is? Besides, who can survive a ferocious attack such as that? Exactly... NO ONE.


3. Auto Hitting

Auto Hitting is another thing that is highly frowned upon in any RP. Auto hitting is best described as hitting another character without giving that character an option to evade, block, or take the attack. Let me give you a scenario. Say someone was to come at you with a knife. Would you simply stand there and get stabbed? HELL NO! You're going to dodge or counter it won't you? Exactly. When making an attack post on a character, leave room for their actions. Here's an example using Richard and John again:

Richard, after seeing his futile blade attack seemingly not work against his foe, ducks and spins around delivering a hard kick sweep on John's legs, effectively sweeping him off his feet and sending him to the ground, the back of his head slamming into the hard concrete ground. Richard laughs at his unworthy opponent and delivers a kick to his groin, watching him scream in agony as the pain shoots up John's body.

That was 2 auto hits. Here's how it could have been posted and it would be perfectly legal:

Richard, after seeing his futile blade attack seemingly not work against his foe, ducks and spins around delivering a hard kick sweep aimed at John's legs, hoping to sweep him off his feet and send him to the ground to which the back of his head will slam into the hard concrete ground. If the attack succeeds, Richard will laugh at his unworthy opponent and deliver a kick to his groin, then watch him scream in agony as the pain shoots up John's body.

This is perfectly legal and is not auto hitting. Do leave the other character the ability to evade, block, or counter the attack should you wish to make an attack on a character.


4. Auto Kills

Auto Kills are another form of auto hitting, except where someone posts a character's death without the consent of the Member playing the character being killed. Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT Auto Kill AT ALL! Here's an example:

Once the pain subsides within John's body from the pain shooting from his groin from Richard's kick, and once his mild concussion wears off, John sits up and unsheathes his dagger and thrusts it into Richard's heart. Richard screams in agony as his dying body falls to the ground and blood oozes from the gaping wound where the dagger rests. John stands and spits disgracefully onto Richard and walks off, leaving Richard to die alone and in agony.

Don't do this. Period.

There is, however, one exception to auto killing, and is allowed in CoD. Read the next rule.


5. Trespassing

Say you have a home topic and you see a post where a character simply kicks in the door and destroys your entire home while you catch him/her in the act. Think of how pissed off you would be in RL if that happened to you. So, in RP, it is well established that if you are not invited into the home, and your character enters the home without permission, then the owner of that home or business can auto kill you on sight without warning. Here's a scenario:

Suzie is at home taking a shower. Bob creeps up and picks the lock to her front door and enters the home. As Bob is looking around trying to find something to steal, Suzie happens to finish showering, get dressed and leaves the bathroom. She then spots Bob trying to sneak to Suzie's bedroom to steal her jewelry, and Bob takes off running. Suzie opens a closet and pulls out her 10mm and runs after Bob outside. She takes aim at Bob's head as he runs for his life and the next thing Bob knows is a loud BOOM and then blackness. The neighborhood heard the shot fired and sees the now dead Bob laying in a pool of blood in the middle of the street.

Auto Killing is ONLY ALLOWED if there is a trespasser in a home or business and WILL BE AUTHORIZED BY ANY AND ALL ADMINS!!! This will be your one and only warning. If your character is caught in the act of trespassing, then your character's fate will be in the hands of the home or business owner.


6. Character Death

If, by legal means, your character dies, Admin will post your character in the Obituaries for all to see. Once your character dies, and you do not have another character to play, then you must make a new character in order to continue to RP. Ghosts of dead characters aren't allowed so don't ask. Let your character rest in peace.


7. Resurrections

If you wish to resurrect one of your dead characters, it first MUST be approved by admin because we have to edit the obituaries. Once it is approved, the character will be revived and allowed to play in the RP once again. To make a request, please have some sort of believable way of resurrection. Not some crap like, "He just came back to life." RP is about creativity, not crap. Do come up with some sort of idea to bring back a character or ask other members if they can help with the resurrection. And don't ask Admin for ideas, we are too busy with other things to be coming up with ideas for you.


This may not cover all areas or universal rules of RP, but they are pretty much everything that can be thought of at this moment. Note that this post MAY change at any time.
